Ordering for Booksellers

McFarland welcomes direct orders for print books. For basic information regarding ordering, see the main page for customer resources. For booksellers, the online catalog will be useful for compiling orders and checking availability, but please send your order by email/fax/phone to ensure that your bookseller's wholesale discount is applied.

Booksellers wishing to establish a new account should contact:
Adam Phillips

Booksellers with an existing account should direct orders and inquiries to:

Discount Policy for Booksellers

McFarland publishes primarily academic nonfiction available at a short discount. Our discount policy follows below.

Single Title Order Policy (STOP): 20%. For single-title, single-unit orders, payment is expected to accompany the order.

General Ordering: 20%. Any assortment of ISBN.

Booksignings: 40%. Limited to ISBN specific to the event. Limited overstock returns privileges (60 days).

Specialty Sales Program: For those booksellers and dealers that are interested in bulk purchases or specialty sales that are beyond the scope of the above discount policies, we would welcome an inquiry. Please contact Adam Phillips to receive a quote.

Payment Terms for Booksellers

New accounts are expected to prepay. Once a credit history is established, booksellers may order with terms of net 30 days.

Shipping for Booksellers

All of our customers pay shipping. UPS ground delivery is used most frequently by our customers, but alternative and expedited shipping methods are available upon request.

Within the U.S., the default shipping method is UPS ground. The shipping charge is based on the weight of the parcel and the delivery location. If your business has an account with UPS and you would prefer UPS Consignee or UPS Collect billing, please specify.

Outside the U.S., please inquire with McFarland for current rates for shipping directly to your area. Some international customers may prefer to use a freight forwarding agent. In those instances, McFarland will ship to the U.S. office of your freight forwarder (ordinarily by UPS ground). Consult our guidelines for international customers for further information about ordering via our agents for your territory.

Returns for Booksellers

McFarland does not require that prior authorization be obtained before making a return. However, we ask that all booksellers abide by the following:

For returns of overstock:

  • Invoice number must be provided.
  • Books may not be returned more than 12 months from the date of the invoice.
  • Returned copies must be clean, saleable and carefully packed.
  • Returned copies must be of current, in-print editions.
  • A credit memo will be issued. Credit may not be used until it has been issued by McFarland.

For misshipments, defective books, or short shipments:

  • Invoice number must be provided.
  • Claims must be made not more than 60 days from the date of the invoice.

Books that are returned erroneously will not receive credit. McFarland retains the right of final decision in determining the saleability and condition of returned books. Returns should be directed to:
